Retroactive Wage Increase to Be Paid September 29, 2011
Canada Post has decided to pay employees in the urban bargaining unit their retroactive pay increases set out in the back-to-work legislation on September 29, 2011.
The last few months have been difficult for our people, particularly those of you who are affected directly by the current round of negotiations with the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW).
As you know there is an arbitration process now underway that will result in a new collective agreement between the company and the urban bargaining unit represented by CUPW. Our hope and desire is that both parties will work with the arbitrator to conclude the final offer selection process within the prescribed timeline.
We had originally planned to pay the wage increase retroactive to February 1 once the new collective agreement was in place. But after hearing feedback from affected employees and CUPW, we agree that it is in your best interest to pay you retroactively before the agreement is in place.
You will receive your retroactive pay on September 29. The retroactive pay and higher pay rate will appear on your corresponding pay statement.
Thank you for your patience as we continue to work toward the conclusion of this process.
Sincerely,
Deepak Chopra
President and Chief Executive Officer

Just think,Once we have a new contract signed. It will be time to start working on a new one.
It’s about time - 2012/03/02
It looks like the conservative government may be on their way out…Election fraud!!. Who are you going to run to now CPC..
Broken body - 2012/02/29
I think Deepak as the ceo of Canada Post should apply to be on the TV show Undercover Boss Canada. He would never make it thru an 8 hour day, oh excuse me it is now 10 hour days with no lunch or breaks with the new postal transformation
APOC - 2012/03/09
Under the contract you have two 15 min. breaks, and a half hour lunch with a five min. wash up time.If you choose not to use them stop complaining. And don’t blame anyone for not taking your breaks but yourself.
SHOCKED!! - 2012/03/20
Give me a break; what do you have to complain about? Is it the $23+ an hour, great benefits, vacation or sick days? You feel the CEO couldn’t last through an 8 hour day? I offer the same challenge; do you feel that you could survive in the real world? I doubt it! Do you realize that you’re making more than most NCMs in our Military? They put their lives on the line so you can continue to work at your very cushy job; they aren’t provided the luxury of paid OT, 5 min hand washing etc. This is just one comparison, trust me you probably couldn’t survive any job outside of Canada Post. The struggle continues REALLY? YOU chose to work here, if you’re really that unhappy go find another job; MANY other people would take your job in a heartbeat and be grateful for all the perks it has to offer!

No I rather dare him and any MP to try and do our jobs.Sign them up for graveyard first then put them on a heavy walk.

Raite & Chopra….
Thank you, thank you, thank you….
After crying about the $$$$$$$$ dollars CPC was losing then having it`s most profitable year, we (those that actualy make the company) had our raise….
after deductions, and having other NEW deductions imposed, I myself have a WHOLE $6.00 increase for the same PP as last year….
BRAVO……glad to see my efforts so well acknowledged and appreciated…
Hope those with the 6 figuer salaries that come up with these beutiful excuses sleep well knowing how they merited their bonuses ……
lc Toronto - 2012/02/17
I have to agree with your comment. I am now bring home less money than I was last year, but working longer hours…….something wrong with this scenario.
yup - 2012/02/21
nothing wrong with this scenario at all. More work, less pay is Canada Post’s new motto. (less worker benefits, bigger corporate bonuses wasn’t working anyway!!!)
Alfie - 2012/02/21
I agree it’s all about profits which fuel the top guys Bonuses… The problem is they move on to other CEO positions… Like Moya did but we as long term employees Feel the pinch and effects for many years. I appload CUPW for standing up and fighting for Sick time and other benefits Canada Post was looking to cut to grow the record profit and increase their individual Corporate bonuses … It’s the truth … I guess record profit isn’t good enough when Mail volumes are supposedely killing us … Yeah right .. If you believe that I have swamp land in Florida for sale … Real cheap …LoL
wendy - 2012/02/24
Just think, had our half witt union settled you would have received more, as well as a bonus and a higher percent of that bonus, oh well, maybe next time we will learn. The union gets more of your raise than you do
Alfie - 2012/02/29
Yeah your right it’s the Unions Fault that the Company is screwing us …lol… Who’s the Half wit ?
think again - 2012/02/29
Just think Wendy, if our half witted union would have settled, we could have had 1/2 the sick days, a worse pension, a 30% reduction in wages, no right to injury on duty claims, more harassment from an insurance company, etc, etc, etc. You are obviously management….
Nitwit - 2012/03/28
Who needs the new SUV… That why the deals were made in the UNION BOSSES FAVOUR!!!
ruralpostie - 2012/01/31
Enough with “negotiations” already. Do the right thing employer and pay RSMCs parity retroactive to when we became “employees”. Or must we wait for CUPW to win another court case in order to get justice for postal workers?
Fed up with corporate games - 2012/03/17
I agree. I am a letter carrier but I think it’s disgusting how RSMCs are treated! They should be under same agreement as us! Or at least corporation should make it easier for RSMCs to become regular LCs.
MISSORT - 2012/01/20
Can anyone tell me what’s going on with the contract. No one seems to know or care, it would be nice to let the employees have a little information. The union is not letting us know and management couldn’t care less.
awer - 2012/01/26
here a link with some update information.. http://www.mastheadonline.com/news/2012/20120113917.shtml
I totally agree that the lack of forthcoming information is discouraging. Probably the best hope for all working class families is that the union can win the “back to work legislation” challenge or if they can’t, then hold all of this up in legal challenges for the next 20 years (or until the conservatives can lose their majority!!!)

My daughter and I are contractors -we are backup for RSMC, Ergo Asst – we do the same job(sort, deliver, handle parcels, cash, use our own vehicle etc) but are not classified as employees we can not have access to internal job postings, HR can not help with our concerns, Union can not help – where do we go for answers?
My daughter used her own vehicle I was her Ergo for 5 months on a vacant route. I was paid by Canada Post for 1 of those 5 months the Ergo was taken away because it was a vacant route. This route had an ergo before becoming vacant. When the route was posted externally my daughter applied was denied because vehicle did not qualify. They hired another person which she trained my daughter still doing backup. Question why is vehicle ok for backup but not to be hired. Ergo…

Mary; if you’ve read my posts you’ll have noticed that in not one of them have I praised the ways of CPC. Also, as of this moment, I’m not privy to any information that clearly demonstrates corporate corruption, but, bare in mind that what industry norm calls business aggressiveness, unions with socialistic views call corruption. I also have stated numerous times that we DO need a union, but one that has its members best interest at heart, not one driven solely by its selfish political agendas. As far as the gov sticking us with a lower wage than was offered on CPC’s final offer, we lost out on that because CUPW would not let its members vote on it, which I believe would have been largely accepted. So, what is done is done…spilt milk, as it were, time to move on.

First time this year back to the site nice see no changes here same old same old.Well guess me retiring a month ago was the right thing.Best of luck my former workers and you start calculating the small cost of leaving as I did 10 months early and already I love it and the stress is gone like a new person.Best to all for the New Year.
Mary - 2011/12/19
Vin you misunderstand … I’m not boosting CUPW”s bubble . But what is the alternative… all you , and Give it to me do… is rip apart CUPW … I want to know what you think of the corporation..and the way they handle their matters… which by the way is corrupt. If you guys can’t see that then I’m wasting my time.. What is your alternative … talk to an alderman… come on give me a break.. Alderman don’t care about our cause at CPC.. their the one’s who ordered us back to a lesser wage than Canada Post first offered.. but I guess you blame that on CUPW also.. of course you do.. Start listing solutions >> not problems with CUPW.. they can only use the grievance procedure … in which they do win ..it will take 20 years to get.. we get the process sucks.
like - 2011/12/22
this is a true point, if you are waiting for cupw to represent you lol, you are not paying enough
give it a break - 2011/12/23
CUPW can only use the grievance procedure? give it a break…they are perfectly capable of taking something to court when their interests are involved. People are supposed to have rights that are upheld. And the members rights are different than the unions.
Where are they? - 2011/12/19
Susan
You should call the “whistleblowing” # at 1-877-288-5043. All calls are confidential and will be investigated..
I believe CPC is trying to clean-up and get rid of the
bad behaviour of some of it’s management team previously accepted by Mona Greene
If that does not work you can also get in touch with the Minister of Transport (Steven Fletcher or Denis Lebel who are the members of parliament that oversee
Canada Post.
The behaviour you described goes against the employer’s “Code of Conduct”

HAHAHAHHAHA…right…yes, good luck with that susan….i really mean it….but you will soon see the futility and frustration….

i would like to say canada post should do an investigation into their managment team in the st. john’n nl area you would not believe whats going on around here.for one thing they are hiring all family members, all thier buddies.. anyone applying for a job at canada post doesn’t haven’t a chance unless you are a buddy of theirs. i think its discusting. most of your management team in the st john’s nfld and surroundings areas are wasting canada post money most of them that come to our po is just interupting the people thats trying to do thier jobs and outside smoking slenging in time it is time to put a stop to all this crap we rsmc’s are working like dogs and they are standing around laughing and telling jokes it is unreal and you need to get rid of this neptism and the buddy…
T5 - 2011/12/19
no use….those that can change whats happening won`t…thier salaries / bonuses dictate that they go blind….I too have seen PLENTY of crockedness…even went down the road of the website with documentation …. big surprise…was told all is “normal” . (grammer police need not tell me of my spelling / grammer errors….)

In the RSMC negotiations there has not been any mention if we are going to get a clothes allowance. It would be nice to look like we work for Canada Post instead of just a person off the street with a sign and light on our vechicle. We do make door to door deliveries just like our letter carrier friends. I think we would get more respect too.
mister LC - 2012/01/16
rsmc ‘s definately should get uniforms! especially the ones that deliver in the city(urban), oh wait isnt it supposed to be “rural and suburban”?? haha right. anyways, if they are delivering to the public, they should look professional too! just a thought from a friendly letter carrier.
